Reduction of Enhancement Rates Seen after the Use of New Analytic Software to Plan Topography-Guided LASIK.

Purpose
Investigate whether new topographic-analysis planning software would yield better clinical results and in turn reduce the number of enhancements needed.

Methods
Clinical results from four surgeons at four US sites were used. Surgical planning had to be based on either the manifest refraction with topographic-guided LASIK, the Phorcides analytical engine planning with topographic lasik, or with wavefront optimized LASIK. Enhancement rates during the 6 month post-operative period were examined.

Results
The lowest 6 month enhancement rate was found in eyes treated with the Phorcides analytical engine planned topography-guided LASIK.

Conclusion
When new topographic-analysis software is used to plan topography-guided LASIK treatments, fewer eyes require enhancements during the first 6 months post-op.
